Below are some member updates for you as we get ready for our 2024 tennis season at WTC!

• Sadly, our general manager Jeff Peer has decided to retire from WTC after 20 years. To say he will be missed is a considerable understatement. A card for any interested members to sign will be waiting in the clubhouse as of opening day. The WTC board is working on 2024 staffing plans and will share updates in the coming weeks.

• Opening day is Saturday, April 13th. 

• The AGM is set for Sunday, May 5th @ 1PM, after social doubles. Please come out to hear what’s going on with the club. We will share our financial reports and there is an opportunity to ask any questions you have about the club’s operations and plans.

• Lessons are now posted on our web site here.  Registration begins at Saturday, March 23rd @ 1PM. (Pushed back due to March Break.)

As I write this, snow is still on the ground but the days are getting longer.

The 2022 tennis season is not too far away and we are already working on club matters for the upcoming year, opening planned for early April.

Your new WTC Board has met several times and I am pleased to report that this Board seems very dynamic and proactive.

As your President, I am writing to you to let you know what we have been up to and what is coming down the pipe line.

We are here to serve you, the Membership, and, while we certainly don’t expect to be able to please everyone, we hope to try!

The Board meets regularly (meeting dates to be posted on the website ahead of time), and we welcome any input or suggestions that you may have.

Please email us through the club’s email address, or, if you know any Board members, you can contact one of us directly.

Points of note:

• The AGM will be held earlier in the season to comply with the fact that we have changed our financial year end. The AGM will be held on the Sunday of the week prior to the Victoria Day long weekend (AGM will be on Sunday May 15^th this year)
• The Agenda will be posted ahead of time and there will be proposed constitutional changes which we need the membership to approve, including a modest rise in membership fees.
• We hope for a good turnout to the AGM – there will be food (usually a good draw card)
• Guest fees will go up to $10 – each guest is still only able to play once a week
• Social Doubles – we will trial an added social doubles session, held daytime on a weekday early in the season, for those who are retired or “work from home”!
• Gametime booking rules remain the same but each booking will be for a one-hour slot throughout.
• We welcomed 38 new members to WTC this year. Our current waiting list is 1000 names long….
• The aim is to run lessons this year for adults and kids, as per pre Covid times
• We have engaged the services of a new accountant who has a lot of experience with tennis clubs like ours

It seems odd to write a letter regarding tennis when we are currently in the worst snow fall since 2009. And I have become used to the cold temperatures. But once this clears I anticipate a warm and spectacular summer for tennis playing.

Membership will be open February 5th for returning members and the deadline will be March 3rd. Returning members will receive a separate email with enrollment instructions. Info regarding lesson sign-up will be open at the same time as membership and will be on a first come first served basis.

Opening Day will be April 20th so swing by between 10am-1:00pm for coffee, treats and shoe tags. Each adult member will also be able to pick up a can of tennis balls. Please note that tennis balls will only be given out on Opening Day.

Women’s team tryouts will be April 22^nd at 6pm with the rain date on the 24^th at 6pm. Please contact Nancy Huang (brtennis@gmail.com) for more info.

Men’s team tryouts will be April 30^th at 6pm with the rain date on May 2^nd at 6pm. Please contact Jim Lebans (jlebans@gmail.com) for more info.
